Frontiers launches with nearly 1000 world-class Editors for the different specialty journals. Each Frontiers Journal has a world-leader in the specialty as a Chief Editor, well-established leaders in each sub-specialty as Associate Editors with a large Review Board to ensure only the best and most appropriate referee for your paper.

Tired of one paragraph rejections or acceptances with some hazy comments that leave you sleepless out of frustration? It is a wasted opportunity when our peers could act as valuable critics, consultants and collaborators. Your critic is your best friend! Well, Frontiers openly challenges the quality and constructivism of the current peer-review process. Frontiers introduces the first comprehensive review template where authors are guaranteed to receive a thorough analysis of their paper. The referees are anonymous during the referee allowing a referee to withdraw from the review, but if they stick with the review, they are disclosed after acceptance. This helps to set the tone of the review from the start. Review Editors are also acknowledged openly on each paper making it in the interest of the Review Editors to help bring the quality of the paper up to the gold standard. In Frontiers, Review Editors are even awarded prizes along with authors if the discovery published in the specialty tier is selected to be showcased in Frontiers in Neuroscience.

Frontiers is the first journal that face the issue of objectivity among reviewing head on. Frontiers requires unanimity among referees before a paper can be accepted. No more 2 out of 3 positive or negative reviews, which is an all to well-known symptom of the subjectivity of the old system. This sets a high bar for papers, but it is also not simple to reject papers in Frontiers. Frontiers uses the real-time interactive review forum to allow referees to interact among themselves on-line and allows authors to challenge referee comments. The paper can only be rejected if the Associate Editor deems the opinions of both referees are unanimous regarding specific objective errors in the paper. Author rights are protected, but no easy sailing to get the stamp of Frontiers. |

Tired of the old system of sending in your manuscripts and waiting for months to get back a response? Frontiers takes us into the next generation scientific publishing by
fully-exploiting the power of the internet to bring us the first real-time review system. The system allows authors to chose the Associate Editor to handle their paper, editors to easily chose
relevant referees, and reviewers to provide an independent review before entering the revolutionary interactive review forum where authors, referees and editor can interact to discuss the burning
issues. The real-time interaction provides the ideal platform to extract the very best out of the peer-review process and the fastest possible review process. The reviewers remain anonymous during the
review process, but are disclosed if the paper is accepted for publication. |

Frontiers launched officially at the SfN07 in San Diego publishing ground breaking articles in 12 specialty neuroscience journals and articles from each of the Chief Editors in the second tier journal, Frontiers in Neuroscience. On January 8th, 2008, Frontiers opens for public submissions. Frontiers is the first real-time review and tier journal system that will use a novel democratic evaluation system (coming up soon!) that could revolutionize the way scientific research is published and evaluated. |
